In the long history of mankind, there have been two transformations of transport and energy power systems, each of which has brought about great changes in human production and life, as well as the economic take-off of pioneering countries or regions. The first change took place in the 1860s and was marked by the birth of steam engine technology. Coal and the steam engine enabled the productivity of human society to be greatly enhanced, creating an industrial economy and an industrial civilisation that led to the European Industrial Revolution, making European countries the world's economic powerhouses at the time.

The second change came in the 1870s, when oil and the internal combustion engine replaced coal and steam, transforming the structure of the world economy from one dominated by light industry to one dominated by heavy industry, and leading to the economic take-off of the United States and bringing mankind into an economic system and material prosperity based on oil.

Today, mankind has once again come to the crossroads of change in the transport and energy power system. The third change will be the replacement of oil and internal combustion engines by electricity and power cells (including fuel cells), bringing mankind into the era of clean energy, and we boldly predict that the third change in the transport and energy power system will lead to the take-off of the Asian economy, making Asia the engine of the world economy instead of the United States.

Under the pressure of energy and environmental protection, new energy vehicles will undoubtedly become the future direction of automotive development. If new energy vehicles are developed rapidly, in 2020 China will have 140 million vehicles, saving 32.29 million tonnes of oil and replacing 31.1 million tonnes of oil, saving and replacing a total of 63.39 million tonnes of oil, which is equivalent to a 22.7% reduction in the demand for oil for automobiles. By 2030, the development of new energy vehicles will save 73.06 million tons of oil and replace 91 million tons of oil, saving and replacing a total of 164.06 million tons of oil, equivalent to a 41% cut in automotive oil demand. By then, biofuels and fuel cells will play an important role in replacing oil in cars.

Taking into account China's energy resources and international trends in automotive technology, it is expected that after 2025, China's regular gasoline vehicles will account for only about 50% of passenger car ownership, while advanced diesel vehicles, gas vehicles, biofuel vehicles and other new energy vehicles will develop rapidly.
